#4 Alabama Withstands 4 Score Comeback from #2 Georgia to Win 41-34 at Home

Last night Alabama and Georgia played in a game that is the early contender for game of the season as Alabama got out to a very early 28-0 lead but found itself down 34-33 with 2:31 to go.

17-year-old WR Ryan Williams led all receivers with 177 receiving yards, including the game winning 75-yard touchdown, and 6 catches.

Down 41-34, needing a touchdown, Alabama’s Zabien Brown intercepted Carson Beck in the end zone to preserve the lead and give Alabama it’s first statement win under new coach Kalen DeBoer.

Georgia QB Carson Beck finished 27-for-50 for 439 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions. WRs Arian Smith and Dillon Bell both hit the century mark for the Bulldogs, going for 132 yards and 100 yards, respectively.

Alabama QB Jalen Milroe finished 27-for-33 with 374 yards, 2 touchdowns, and an interception. Milroe also more than doubled up every other rusher in the game with 117 rushing yards and 2 rushing TDs on 16 carries.

Kentucky Goes into Oxford and Upsets #6 Ole Miss 20-17

Unranked Kentucky went into Oxford, MS and stunned #6 Ole Miss by a final tally of 20-17 yesterday.

Both offenses looked fairly pedestrian for most of the afternoon, as Kentucky finished with 4.48 yards per play. Ole Miss did manage roughly 6.3 yards per play, but could not sustain enough drives that ended in points for that difference to pay dividends.

Ole Miss did have a chance to send the game to overtime, but the Rebels’ kicker hooked the ball that would’ve kept the game alive.

Ole Miss WR Tre Harris finished the game with an impressive 176 receiving yards and a touchdown on 11 catches.

Kentucky WR Dane Key also crossed the 100-yard mark by putting up 105 yards and a touchdown on 8 catches.

Ole Miss’ Princely Umanmielen also had a solid game, putting up 5 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and 3 tackles for loss.

Arizona Comfortably Upsets #10 Utah 23-10

Utah gained nearly an identical amount of yards compared to Arizona, it had two more first downs than Arizona, and it was more effective on 3rd down.

So how did Utah lose 23-10? Utah lost the turnover battle 2-to-1 and was 0-for-4 on 4th down conversions.

Arizona’s 2 main ball carriers in this one – Quali Conley & Kedrick Reescano – combined for 155 yards on just 21 carries, and QB Noah Fifita finished 19-for-31 with 197 yards, 2 touchdowns, and an interception.

On Utah’s sideline, it was a little more inconsistent production, as QB Isaac Wilson finished 20-for-40 with 280 yards, a touchdown, 2 interceptions, and a QBR of just 18.4.

A bright spot was Utah’s Dorian Singer, who finished with 9 catches and 155 receiving yards.

#16 Notre Dame Starts Fast Against #15 Louisville and Holds on to Win 31-24

#16 Notre Dame got off to a hot start against #15 Louisville by scoring touchdowns on each of its first 3 drives by capitalizing off of a litany of Louisville miscues.

By the end, Louisville finished with nearly twice as many first downs (19-11), over 150 more yards (437-283), and the same number of turnovers. But ultimately, Notre Dame capitalized on one mistake too many for Louisville to complete its comeback attempt.

Notre Dame QB Riley Leonard was fairly efficient, finishing 17-for-23 with 163 yards and 2 touchdowns while also leading all Irish rushers with 52 yards and a TD on 13 carries.

Louisville QB Tyler Shough finished 24-for-41 with 264 yards, 3 touchdowns, and an interception.

Colorado Dismantles UCF 48-21 After Being 14 Point Underdogs

Colorado started strong, stayed strong, and finished strong against UCF as the Buffaloes turned a 2-touchdown underdog status to an absolute rout of previously unbeaten Knights team.

Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders was impressive, putting up 290 yards, 3 touchdowns, and an interception on 28-for-35 passing.

However, the story coming out of this game should be that Travis Hunter continues to do unprecedented things in college football as he added another interception and pass defended to his total to go along with 89 receiving yards and a touchdown on 9 catches.

RJ Harvey also had an impressive game for UCF, finishing with 77 rushing yards on 16 carries and 92 receiving yards and a touchdown on 4 catches, including a 75-yard touchdown back when it was a close 7-7 game.

#23 Kansas State Throttles #20 Oklahoma State 42-20 in Manhattan

Kansas State QB Avery Johnson accounted for 5 touchdowns yesterday as Kansas State comfortably beat Oklahoma State 42-20.

Johnson finished 19-for-31 with 259 yards, 3 touchdowns, an interception, 60 rushing yards, and 2 touchdowns on 5 carries. RB DJ Giddens also put up 187 rushing yards and a touchdown on 15 carries.

Oklahoma State RB Ollie Gordon II finally had at least an average game against an FBS opponent, finishing with 76 rushing yards on 15 carries.

Oklahoma State WR De’Zhaun Stribling finished with 7 catches and a touchdown as he more than doubled up all other receivers in the game with 157 receiving yards.

#9 Penn State Shuts Down #19 Illinois to Win 21-7

#9 Penn State played some classic, tough Big Ten football to beat #19 Illinois by a final of 21-7. In a game that featured just 7 first half drives combined, Illinois scored on the first drive and then failed to score again even though it only went 3-and-out once.

Penn State’s defense finished with 2 turnovers, 7 sacks, and 13 tackles for loss, while running backs Kaytron Allen and Nicholas Singleton combined for 196 yards and 2 touchdowns for the Nittany Lions.

#12 Michigan Holds Off Minnesota 27-24 Despite Late Comeback Attempt

Michigan raced out to a solid 21-0 lead and had as high of an ESPN Win Probability off 99.5% before the two-minute warning. But Minnesota was able to cut the lead to a touchdown early in the 4th quarter.

Minnesota’s leading rusher only put up 36 yards on 13 carries but did score 2 touchdowns, but it was QB Max Brosmer who kept the Golden Gophers in this one, as he finished 27-for-40 with 258 yards, a touchdown, and an interception.

For Michigan, RB Kalel Mullings finished with 111 yards and 2 touchdowns on 24 carries.

QB Alex Orji finished 10-for-18 with 86 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. Almost half of those yards went to TE Colston Loveland, who was back from injury and finished with 4 catches for 41 yards.

DL Mason Graham also made his impact felt putting up 2 sacks.

5-0 Duke With 20-Point Comeback over North Carolina to Win 21-20

North Carolina had as high as a 97.6% chance to win according to ESPN early in the 3rd quarter as it took a 20-0 lead over Duke before Duke followed that up with 21 unanswered points.

This game featured plenty of possessions, as the teams combined for 15 punts despite each team only having 74 and 79 offensive plays. The two teams were nearly evenly matched offensively, with North Carolina putting up 5.15 yards per play, and Duke putting up 5.35 yards per play.

The player of the game for the Blue Devils was arguably RB Star Thomas who finished with 45 receiving yards and a touchdown on 2 catches while, more importantly, putting up 166 rushing yards and a touchdown on 30 carries.

UNLV Dominates Usually Solid Fresno State by Score of 59-14 Despite Off-Field Distractions

After QB Matthew Sluka abruptly left UNLV over an alleged $100,000 payment that was never honored, Hajj-Malik Williams (pictured above) went on to have a career day and steamroll Fresno State, 59-14.

Williams finished 13-for-16 passing for 182 yards and 3 touchdowns with an 87.7 QBR while also leading all other rushers in this game by at least twice as many yards with 119 rushing yards and a touchdown on 12 carries.

UNLV WR Ricky White also was a big beneficiary of the QB change, as White finished with 127 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns on 10 catches.

UNLV also got interceptions from Johnathan Baldwin, Jeremiah Vessel, Jalen Catalon, and Cameron Oliver as three different passers threw picks for Fresno State.

Fresno State QBs Mikey Keene, Joshua Wood, and Jayden Mandal all threw picks to the Rebels’ defense. Keene finished 27-for-41 with 316 passing yards, a touchdown, and 2 interceptions. Wood finished 1-for-3 for 0 yards and an interception. And then Mandal threw one pass: an interception.

The result of this game should bring UNLV into the AP Top 25 for the first time in program history, making the Rebels an interesting candidate for story of the year, at the very least in the Group of 5.
