#24 Illinois Wins Back and Forth OT Game 31-24 Against #22 Nebraska

#24 Illinois picked up a big win in Lincoln, Nebraska in a back and forth game against #22 Nebraska by winning 31-24 in overtime.

No team took larger than a 7-point lead at any point, with the highest win probability during regulation at any point being Nebraska going up to 84.1% with 8:57 left in the 3rd quarter.

Nebraska QB Dylan Raiola had a strong game, finishing 24-for-35 for 297 yards, 3 touchdowns, and an interception on a 50/50 ball that was originally ruled a passing touchdown on the field. Ultimately, Raiola was sacked 3 times in overtime as the Huskers needed a touchdown to tie it up following Illinois’ overtime touchdown.

Not to be outdone, Illinois QB Luke Altmyer threw for 4 touchdowns, including the decisive TD in overtime, finished 21-for-27 with 215 yards.

Illinois did go 4-for-4 in the red zone, bringing their season total up to 16-for-16 in the red zone.

Illinois WR Pat Bryant hauled in a pair of touchdowns, also putting up 5 catches for 74 yards. Nebraska WR also hauled in a pair of touchdowns while also catching 4 receptions for 90 yards.

ECU CB Shavon Revel Jr. Tears ACL in Practice, Out for Rest of 2024

ECU’s Shavon Revel Jr. tore his ACL during practice this week and is now expected to be out for the season.

Revel is a projected first-round pick in the upcoming NFL draft, listed as the #2 CB prospect according to Mel Kiper. In just 3 games, PFF credits Revel with 2 pass breakups to go with 2 INTs while his receiver has only caught 8 of 21 targets.

In 2023, Revel finished with 55 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, 14 pass breakups, an interception, a sack, a forced fumble, and two blocked kicks, as an NFL scout told ESPN’s Pete Thamel that Revel has the chance to be this year’s Quinyon Mitchell, the cornerback for the Eagles who went to Toledo.

Revel was also described “as talented of a player as there is in a Group of Five conference.” The injury Revel suffered was described as a freak injury from this past Wednesday, and now for Revel it becomes about healing as soon as possible and either making the decision to enter the NFL Draft or returning to college if he can obtain a medical redshirt and wishes to spend one more year at the college level.

South Carolina QB LaNorris Sellers Out vs. Akron, Robby Ashford to Start

South Carolina QB LaNorris Sellers injured his ankle in the game against LSU, and On3’s Pete Nakos is reporting that Robby Ashford is set to start as Sellers is still out.

Ashford played much of the second half for South Carolina against LSU, finishing 2-for-4 for 42 yards, and with 11 rushes on 11 rushing attempts. Ashford was sacked three times and fumbled twice, though.

This will be Ashford’s 11th career start as he gets ready to make the start against Akron in a game in which South Carolina is heavily favored.

Texas A&M QB Conner Weigman Unlikely to Play Against Bowling Green

ESPN’s Pete Thamel is reporting that QB Conner Weigman is unlikely to play against Bowling Green, and redshirt freshman Marcel Reed will be making the start in his place.

Weigman suffered a sprained right AC joint during Week 2, and so Reed also made the start last week on the road at Florida, too. Considering Texas A&M coach Mike Elko also said that he considers the quarterback position to be a week-to-week decision for the rest of the season, Thamel is unsure if Weigman will start another game for the Aggies by the time he does return from injury.

Stanford Makes Game Winning Field Goal As Time Expires to Beat Syracuse 26-24

Stanford kicker Emmet Kenney booted through a 39-yard field goal as time expired in the Carrier Dome last night to beat Syracuse 26-24.

Stanford jumped out to a 13-3 lead in the first half, with Syracuse responding right before half to be down only 13-10. But in the second half, Syracuse’s defense kept the Stanford offense out of the end zone for the rest of the night, as Stanford’s only 2nd half touchdown was a 71-yard pick six by Stanford’s Mitch Leigber.

After taking a 1-point lead with just over 3 minutes left in the 4th quarter, Stanford put together an 11-play, 54-yard drive in the remaining time to set up a 39-yard field goal from between the hashes for the Cardinal to be a walk-off winner.

Syracuse QB Kyle McCord finished 27-for-42 with a fairly impressive 339 yards, though he only finished with 2 passing TDs and did have 2 INTs. Stanford QB Ashton Daniels, on the other hand, finished 23-for-38 passing for 178 yards with 1 TD and 2 INTs. Daniels also added 45 rushing yards on 13 carries.

Stanford was able to run the ball, finishing with 32 carries for 173 yards, while Syracuse struggled to run the ball consistently, as its leading rusher was LeQuint Allen with 25 yards on 8 carries and the team finished with 26 total rushing yards on 17 total carries.

Utah QB Cam Rising Will Play per Pete Thamel

ESPN’s Pete Thamel shared that Utah’s Cam Rising will play today against Oklahoma State.

Thamel also shared that “he obviously had the hand injury. He warmed up with a glove last week. It’ll be interesting to see if he has a glove or not on that throwing hand. We’ll get a full read on that.”

Earlier in the week, Thamel reported that Rising had a dislocated finger on his throwing hand and also believed he had stitches near that finger. It will be of note to see if that is still the case.

Washington State Mounts 4th Quarter Comeback to Beat San Jose State 54-52 in Double Overtime

Washington State did a solid job carrying the torch of the Pac-12 After Dark reputation as the Cougars beat San Jose State 54-52 in double overtime after entering the 4th quarter down 38-24.

The Cougars finished with an impressive 627 yards and 6.6 yards per play led by its quarterback, John Mateer, who finished 26-for-46 with 390 passing yards, four passing touchdowns, two interceptions, 111 rushing yards on 18 carries, and a rushing touchdown.

Washington State RB Wayshawn Parker also added 76 rushing yards on 22 carries, but Dylan Paine scored a pair of touchdowns in his 6 carries.

For San Jose State, QB Emmett Brown finished 35-for-54 with 375 yards, four passing touchdowns, and two interceptions. Running back Floyd Chalk IV finished with 94 rushing yards and a pair of rushing TDs on 11 carries.

Washington State scored in double overtime and took an 8-point lead after Dylan Paine scored a 7-yard touchdown and John Mateer converted the 2-point try. San Jose State responded with a touchdown itself as Nick Nash hauled in a 4-yard touchdown. Ultimately, the 2-point conversion failed, though, and Washington State won 54-52.

North Carolina QB Jacolby Criswell to Start vs. James Madison

North Carolina reportedly will be starting QB Jacolby Criswell today against James Madison according to Matt Zenitz.

QB Conner Harrell has made each of the last two starts after QB1 Max Johnson suffered a season ending injury in Week 1, but now Mack Brown and North Carolina are switching to Criswell for today’s game against the Dukes.

Mack Brown already shared earlier in the week that both quarterbacks will play, so both Criswell and Harrell should still be expected to get substantial amounts of playing time, but it sounds like Criswell will at least get to start the game.

Auburn WR Cam Coleman Expected to Play vs. Arkansas

Auburn freshman WR Cam Coleman is expected to play today against Arkansas per ESPN’s Pete Thamel after missing Auburn’s win over New Mexico thanks to an injury suffered in Auburn’s loss to Cal.

Coleman was a Top-5 recruit in the previous recruiting class, and has already made an impact, putting up 4 catches for 115 yards and a touchdown despite the injury early in the season.

Auburn and Arkansas kick off at 3:30 PM ET today on ESPN, and Coleman will be a name to know in a matchup that Vegas projects to be a close game.

Tennessee OT Lance Heard Out vs. Oklahoma

ESPN’s Pete Thamel is reporting that Tennessee OT Lance Heard is expected to be out for tonight’s game on the road Oklahoma as he continues dealing with a leg injury.

Heard also missed Tennessee’s game last week against Kent State, which has meant his backup, Dayne Davis, has been getting to play in Heard’s absence.

#6 Tennessee and #15 Oklahoma kick off at 7:30 PM ET tonight on ABC.
