Jacksonville State Scores 38 Unanswered to Beat New Mexico State 54-13

New Mexico State opened up the scoring on the evening with a 53-yard field goal. But by the time New Mexico State found the end zone for the first time, Jacksonville State had scored 54 points, including 38 unanswered points from the last few minutes of the 2nd quarter until the first minute of the 4th quarter.

Jacksonville State had four different players combine for 5 rushing touchdowns, with Tre Stewart leading all rushers in this game with 118 yards and 2 touchdowns on 21 carries. Quarterback Tyler Huff also contributed a rushing touchdown and 58 rushing yards on 13 carries. He also finished 11-for-18 with 196 yards and 2 touchdowns passing.

The Gamecocks also won the turnover battle 3-0, as the Aggies lost a pair of fumbles and threw an interception.

New Mexico State’s leading rusher was Mike Washington, who finished with 76 rushing yards on 13 carries. The Aggies did finish with 206 rushing yards on 42 total carries, the only problem with that is that Jacksonville State ran for 334 yards on 49 carries. Aggie WR PJ Johnson III did lead all receivers in this game with 84 yards on 3 catches and the Aggies’ lone touchdown late in the 4th quarter.

NCAA Eliminating National Letter of Intent

From @On3Recruits on X, for a recent, high-profile example of a player wanting to be let out of an NLI

The NCAA Division I Council approved yesterday to eliminate the National Letter of Intent program.

Replacing the former system, the NLI program is expected to be replaced by financial aid and scholarship agreements. The recruiting restrictions that are currently a part of the NLI system as it was used before are expected to be retained, though.

The NLI system had been weakening recently, however, with the Collegiate Commissioners Association – the association responsible for the administration of the NLI system – softening some rules to adapt with the changing landscape of college sports. The new system is expected to more closely resemble the current transfer process, where the athlete signs an athletics aid agreement and then enrolls at the university.

Texas QB Quinn Ewers Probable for Red River Shootout

Texas and Oklahoma get together in the Cotton Bowl this weekend for the 120th playing of the Red River Shootout (or Rivalry, if you’re not interested in the traditional and historical name).

However, one of the bigger storylines is going to be the health of Texas QB Quinn Ewers, who has been dealing with an oblique injury that he suffered a few weeks ago in a win over UTSA.

The main name on the Wednesday injury report worth noting is obviously Ewers, who is currently listed as probable. Since the injury, the Oklahoma game has really been the date circled for Ewers to likely return after backup QB Arch Manning made starts against UL Monroe and Mississippi State for the injured Ewers.

For the Longhorns, RB Colin Page, P/K Michael Kern, and LS Tate Haver are listed as questionable with DB Derek Williams Jr. also listed as probable. RBs CJ Baxter, Christian Clark, and Velton Gardner are all still out.

For the Sooners, WR Deion Burks and TE Kade McIntyre are both questionable while a handful of players remain out: WRs Jayden Gibson, Jalil Farooq, Nic Anderson, Andrel Anthony, OL Geirean Hatchett, and DBs Gentry Williams and Kendel Dolby.

3-Star OT Takhyian Whitset Decommits from Purdue

3-star OT Takhyian Whitset decommitted from Purdue after originally committing to Purdue back on April 30, when he chose Purdue over Vanderbilt, Arkansas State, UAB, and other offers.

Whitset is ranked highest by On3, who is the only service to rate him a 4-star and ranking him 238th nationally and 20th at the OT position. According to the On3 industry composite, Whitset ranks 672nd nationally and 40th at the OT position.

Purdue is now down to 11 commitments and the 68th ranked recruiting class for the 2025 class. The Boilermakers are also now 18th out of 18 in the Big Ten for the 2025 recruiting class.

3-Star CB Josh Johnson Decommits from Louisville

3-star CB Josh Johnson decommitted from Louisville yesterday after originally committing back on June 14th.

Johnson also has offers from Power 4 programs Penn State, Tennessee, Arkansas, Kentucky, Iowa, Michigan State, plus other offers.

This past weekend, Johnson visited Penn State, saying to Penn State’s On3 affiliate that he liked that the Penn State staff seems to have a plan for him: “they really see me as a defensive player who they can put out there and make plays.”

Johnson is nearly a 4-star according to On3, while recruiting services like Rivals are markedly lower on the Ironton, OH cornerback. Johnson is ranked 946th nationally and 82nd at the CB position according to the On3 industry composite.

Louisville’s 2025 class still has 12 commitments, including one 4-star. The class ranks 62nd nationally and 16th out of 17 in the newly expanded ACC, ahead of Cal.

Other Commitments/Decommitments

3-Star (88) WR DJ Avery Jr. flips from Miami (OH) to Georgia State.

3-Star (83) LB Alexander Green flips from San Diego State to UNLV.

3-Star (83) S Hayden Thompson commits to Montana State.

Arizona State DL Tristan Monday entered the transfer portal.
