Good morning, and welcome back to CFB Roundup from CFB Home – the first daily newsletter that’s all college football, all the time with no bias, no slant, and no fluff.

Virginia Tech QB Kyron Drones to Sit out Rest of Spring for Minor Procedure

The Action Network’s Brett McMurphy is reporting that QB Kyron Drones will sit out the rest of spring practice for a minor procedure.

Coach Brent Pry shared that the previously injured Drones had returned to health, but that there’s a minor setback for the rest of spring.

“Kyron has demonstrated excelled leadership and has had an outstanding winter and spring. We fully anticipate he will be ready to return for summer workouts.”

Injury Update for Miami QB Carson Beck

Miami QB Carson Beck is continuing to recover from the UCL surgery he underwent following the injury he suffered against Texas in the SEC Championship.

Coach Mario Cristobal shared that Beck’s recovery is ahead of schedule, but he is not ready to practice yet:

“Everything is ahead of schedule, and we’re excited about his progress, excited being around him because of his level of football IQ, the way he understands the game. There’s just a natural presence about him. But I guess I’ll save all that talk for when he’s actually practicing so you guys could get a real-deal feel, get some good tape and some eyes on him so you can see him practice.”

Consensus 4-Star RB Deshonne Redeaux Commits to USC

Consensus 4-star RB Deshonne Redeaux committed to USC this weekend over offers from Georgia, Michigan, Oregon, and others.

Redeaux shared with On3 that USC turned up its recruitment of him, and from then on he felt like “I couldn’t leave home and there was no need for me to go anywhere else. … They laid out their plan, they showed me that USC had everything for me and that I could be a difference-maker early in the program.”

Redeaux ranks as high as 93rd nationally and 5th at the RB position (247Sports), but the On3 industry composite places Redeaux 143rd nationally and 13th at the RB position.

For USC, this is the 12th Blue Chip commitment and 20th commitment total for a class which ranks 2nd nationally and 1st in the Big Ten according to the On3 team recruiting rankings.

Consensus 4-Star EDGE Ebenezer Ewetade Commits to Notre Dame

Consensus 4-star EDGE Ebenezer Ewetade committed to Notre Dame this weekend on a visit to South Bend. He committed to Notre Dame over Alabama and Georgia, among other offers.

Of Notre Dame, Ewetade shared, “Notre Dame is Notre Dame, you feel me? I don’t know how to put it into words. Magical place. Notre Dame can mold you into a better person. I feel like it’s a place I can grow. It’s a place that won’t make me just a better football player, but a better man.”

Ewetade is on the lower end of a 4-star rating according to 247 and Rivals, but On3 has him as the 36th ranked player nationally and 6th at his position, with the On3 industry composite placing him 189th nationally and 22nd at the EDGE position.

For Notre Dame, this is the 6th Blue Chip commitment and 8th commitment total for a class which ranks 9th nationally.

4-Star CB Jontavius Wyman Flips to Miami from Georgia

4-star CB Jontavius Wyman flipped from Miami to Georgia this weekend after originally committing to Georgia back in July.

Of Miami, Wyman shared “I just felt like everything going on, that’s the school I see myself playing at. The culture, I love the coaches, facilities, and how that program carries itself in general. The standard.”

Wyman ranks as high as 85th nationally and 6th at his position according to Rivals, but the On3 industry composite has him more modestly ranked at 201st nationally and 19th at the CB position.

For Miami, this is the 7th Blue Chip commitment and 9th commitment in total for a class which currently ranks 11th nationally and 2nd in the ACC. For Georgia, the Bulldogs are down to 3 Blue Chip commitments and 5 commitments total for a class which ranks 21st nationally and 10th in the SEC.

2027 Consensus 4-Star LB Taven Epps Commits to Texas

2027 consensus 4-star LB Taven Epps committed to Texas yesterday over offers from over 30 schools, with UCLA and USC being two of the main schools high on his list.

Epps now lives in southern California, but he used to live in Texas, and he shared with On3 that every time he returned to Texas, it felt like family. “It is like I am a player on the team and already connected with the coaches. The coaches really want me there and how I feel when I am there was big in my commitment. … Texas has great history, they have tradition, they offer a great education, and I like their style of play. It is a great place, a great program, and it just feels like home to me.”

Epps ranks 61st nationally and 4th at the LB position according to the On3 industry composite for the 2027 class, but there are still plenty of players who need to be added due to it being so early in the recruiting cycle.

4-Star WR O’Mari Johnson Commits to North Carolina

4-star WR O’Mari Johnson committed to North Carolina yesterday over offers from Ole Miss, LSU, Tennessee, South Carolina, Florida State, and others.

Johnson shared with On3’s Steve Wiltfong a little bit ago, “what excites me the most about the Tar Heels are their interest in developing players.”

On Rivals, Johnson ranks as high as 153rd nationally and 7th at the position, but the On3 industry composite has him more modestly ranked 265th nationally and 43rd at the WR position.

For the Tar Heels, this is the 2nd Blue Chip commitment and 10th commitment overall for a 2026 class which ranks 28th nationally and 5th in the ACC.

3-Star ATH Jyron Hughley Commits to West Virginia

3-star ATH Jyron Hughley committed to West Virginia yesterday over offers from Florida State, Penn State, Miami, and others.

Hughley shared why West Virginia was home for him: “what made WVU right for me was how it has always been a home for me. It always held a special place in my heart since I was a baby. I have a lot of history there. I have 3 uncles that played there: Ja’Juan, Travis, and Jashaun. I also have family that still lives there to this day. My favorite thing about WVU is its culture.”

Hughley ranks 383rd nationally and 23rd at the ATH position according to the On3 industry composite, and it sounds like Hughley is likely to be a QB prospect for the Mountaineers.

For West Virginia, this is the 4th commitment of the 2026 class, a class which currently ranks 44th nationally and 8th in the Big 12.

3-Star CB Jalen Williams Commits to Arizona State

3-star CB Jalen Williams committed to Arizona State this weekend over offers from Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Pitt, and NC State, among others.

Williams shared that, “one of the biggest reasons why I chose them was how I related best to Coach Dillingham and the entire staff. They showed the most genuine love and they really prioritized me. I like how they have a plan for me, too.”

Williams is only rated by On3 and Rivals, where he ranks much higher on Rivals. The On3 industry composite does put him at 1,065th nationally and 96th at the CB position, though, it will be worth it for ASU fans to check back later if/when he gets ratings from 247 and ESPN.

For Arizona State, this is the 7th commitment for a class which currently sits at 20th nationally and 1st in the Big 12, as Coach Dillingham is working hard to build momentum on the recruiting trail.
