Cam Rising Out for Remainder of 2024 Season

Utah QB Cam Rising has been dealing with injuries for a few seasons, but the last couple of seasons have been particularly challenging for Rising. Yesterday it was announced by Utah that Rising is done for the rest of the 2024 season, and any questions on future eligibility will be addressed later.

Coach Kyle Whittingham released the following statement: “upon further evaluation by our medical staff, Cameron Rising’s injury has unfortunately been deemed season-ending. During his time at Utah, Cam has been both a great player and leader for our program, and he will obviously be missed. Any future developments concerning his collegiate eligibility will be addressed at a later date.”

From the sounds of it, some are speculating that this is Rising last season with Utah regardless of if an 8th year of eligibility is granted via a medical redshirt. But if he does get another medical redshirt granted and hits the transfer portal, his experience of over 6,000 passing yards and over 50 touchdowns will be hard for any other transfer options to match.

Colorado State Star WR Tory Horton Out for 2024 Season

Star WR Tory Horton will miss the remainder of the 2024 season after suffering a knee injury against San Jose State.

ESPN’s Pete Thamel is reporting that he will hopefully be healed up in time for draft preparation as Horton turns his attention to the future.

Horton played in 50 career games, tallying 3,615 receiving yards and 27 touchdowns on 265 receptions. He finishes just 35 yards short of the Mountain West all-time receiving record.

Coach Jay Norvell released a statement, stating: “I am very sad to announce that Tory Horton will underdog a season-ending procedure from an injury sustained in our game against San Jose State and will not return this season. This will end the career of the two-time captain and one of the best players in Colorado State and Mountain West history. He was on the brink of accomplishing several career milestones at CSU and the Mountain West, including being just 35 yards short of becoming the all-time Mountain West receiving yards leader. His injury is season ending, but he will fully recover and have his chance at the next level with the National Football League. I am appreciative of Tory’s loyalty to the staff and his sacrifice and leadership to CSU.”

Dan Lanning Confirms 12-Man Penalty Was Intentional

Oregon coach Dan Lanning confirmed yesterday that Oregon intentionally put a 12th man on the field in an effort to drain the clock while only sacrificing 5 yards.

When asked about it, Lanning shared, “it’s called dog. He was in extremely tight coverage, but he was in dog coverage where we had a safety on top of him. There was a timeout before that. We spend an inordinate amount of time in situations. There are some situations that don’t show up very often in college football, but this is one that, obviously, that we have worked on. You can see the result.”

The play lasted 4 seconds, and no time was added back due to it being a live-ball foul, which meant Oregon essentially traded 4 seconds for 5 yards while Ohio State was down one point and not quite to field goal range yet.

2026 4-Star Edge Braeden Jones Commits to USC

2026 4-star edge Braeden Jones committed to USC recently over offers from Ohio State, Notre Dame, and over 20 others.

This past weekend was Jones’ first time out to USC, where he visited the Trojans for its game against Penn State. For awhile, it was thought that Notre Dame and Ohio State were going to be his top choices, but ultimately it is USC that has earned his commitment.

Jones ranks as high as 73rd nationally and 6th at his position, according to Rivals. According to the On3 industry composite, Jones ranks 134th nationally and 12th at his position.

This is USC’s 3rd Blue Chip commitment and 6th commitment overall for a 2026 class which ranks 2nd nationally and the Big Ten, behind only Oregon.

2026 4-Star DL Tomuhini Topui Commits to Oregon

2026 4-star DL Tomuhini Topui recently committed to Oregon over almost 30 other offers, including Georgia, Texas, USC, and others.

For Topui, he looked at the culture being built in Eugene and decided that’s for him. He also was on hand for the game against Ohio State, and he described the atmosphere as crazy and another large part of the reason that he committed to the Ducks.

Looking at ESPN’s recruiting rankings, Topui is currently ranked as the #1 DL for the 2026 class and the 61st ranked recruit nationally. According to the On3 industry composite, Topui ranks 204th nationally and 19th at his position.

This is Oregon’s 5th Blue Chip commitment and 7th commitment overall for the 2026 class, which is currently the top ranked class for that recruiting cycle.

4-Star S Jacob Bradford Commits to LSU

4-star S Jacob Bradford committed to LSU recently after also recently decommitting from Houston. Bradford spent most of the summer committed to the Cougars, but now the Baton Rouge native will be staying in his home-state of Louisiana to play for the Tigers.

Bradford recently took an official visit, lauding the staff and the effort they put in with the recruits from the state of Louisiana during that visit.

Braford is ranked 388th nationally and 36th for his position according to the On3 industry composite, with Rivals rating him the highest as a 4-star.

This is LSU’s 19th Blue Chip commitment and 27th commitment overall for a 2025 class which currently ranks 3rd nationally and 2nd in the SEC, behind only Ohio State and Alabama at the moment.

3-Star QB Blake Hebert Flips from Clemson to Notre Dame

3-star QB Blake Hebert flipped his commitment from Clemson to Notre Dame yesterday after originally committing to Clemson back in June of 2023.

Hebert received an offer from Notre Dame awhile ago, but that was before Blue Chip QB Deuce Knight flipped from the Irish to Auburn.

Hebert ranks 408th nationally and 30th at his position according to the On3 industry composite, with ESPN ranking him as the 6th best QB for the 2025 class.

This is Notre Dame’s 23rd commitment for the 2025 class for a recruiting class which ranks 13th nationally.

Composite 3-Star OL Takhyian Whitset Commits to NC State

Composite 3-star OL Takhyian Whitset committed to NC State after recently decommitting from Purdue. Whitset also held offers from Florida State, Virginia Tech, Vandy, and others.

Whitset said that the players in the locker room for NC State were what helped separate the Wolfpack from his other offers. His relationship with Coach Tujague also stood out to the Tennessee-native.

Whitset is rated as a 4-star by On3, who ranks him 238th nationally and 20th for his position. The On3 industry composite, however, ranks Whitset 673rd nationally and 20th at his position.

NC State’s 2025 class now has 17 commitments overall for a 2025 class which ranks 48th nationally and 12th in the ACC.
