Michigan QB Jack Tuttle Announces Medical Retirement Following Concussion
Michigan QB Jack Tuttle announced via Instagram yesterday that he was medically retiring from football following a recent concussion.
His Instagram statement, in part, reads:
“The past year has been challenging … unfortunately, the recent experience of my fifth concussion has brought forth the painful truth: that I need to start prioritizing my health.”
Tuttle shared that he plans to pursue a role in coaching as his passion for the game of football is still very much so a part of him.
UCF Fires DC Ted Roof
UCF is firing its defensive coordinator, Ted Roof. Roof’s defense is currently averaging over 30 points allowed per game and falls outside the Top 100.
Roof joined the UCF staff as DC and LBs Coach in January of 2024 after being fired by Oklahoma less than a week prior, but is already out from UCF a couple months into the season.
Tim Harris Jr. will take over defensive playcalling duties for the Knights.
Indiana QB Kurtis Rourke Injury Update: Optimistic He Can Play This Weekend
Indiana QB Kurtis Rourke underwent surgery for a thumb injury suffered two weeks ago, but after missing only last week’s game, there is optimism he will be good to go this weekend against Michigan State.
ESPN’s Pete Thamel is reporting this optimism exists in large part due to the fact that Rourke has been successfully throwing the ball. Indiana’s first full practice for the week is today, and it will be a large boon to the Hoosier offense if Rourke is able to participate.
In his absence, backup QB Tayven Jackson went 11-for-19 for 124 yards, a touchdown, and an interception while also adding 17 yards and a touchdown on the ground.
The No. 13 ranked, unbeaten Hoosiers and whoever its QB is face Michigan State at 3:30 PM on Saturday.
Iowa QB Update: Brendan Sullivan Listed as QB1, Cade McNamara Not on Depth Chart
Iowa’s depth chart for this weekend’s game against Wisconsin has been released, and on it, Brendan Sullivan is listed as the starting QB with former starting QB Cade McNamara no where to be found.
McNamara has made every start for the Hawkeyes this season, but with Sullivan starting, and QB Marco Lainez listed as the backup, it would appear as though the McNamara-era of Iowa football has come to a close.
Sullivan played some in Iowa’s 40-14 win over Northwestern this past weekend for some of his first meaningful snaps in an Iowa uniform, and he finished 9-for-14 with 79 passing yards with 41 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown.

4-Star WR Malachi Toney re-commits to Miami after committing to the Hurricanes in August of 2023 and decommitting earlier this month. Now, Toney is back on board with Miami.
In discussing his relationship with the Miami staff following his decommitment, he stated that his relationship with the staff was still the same and they were still showing him the same amount of love. Now, he’s back in the fold with those same coaches who did not stop recruiting despite his decommitment.
Toney is ranked as high as 192nd nationally and 33rd at the WR position according to Rivals. According to the On3 industry composite, Toney ranks 365th nationally and 53rd at his position.

Sam Pittman States TEs Tyrus Washington, Var’keyes Gumms Dismissed from Program
During his Monday evening press conference, Arkansas Coach Sam Pittman confirmed full dismissals from the program for TEs Tyrus “TyTy” Washington and Var’keyes Gumms.
The question asked of Coach Pittman was about suspensions, but Coach Pittman responded, “they’re not on the team. There was no suspension. They’re gone.”
As further clarification, Coach Pittman answered a follow-up question by stating, “yeah, they’re not on the team. Tyrus Washington and [Var’keyes] Gumms, yeah.”
Washington had been with the Arkansas program for 3 years, totaling 14 catches for 212 yards and 4 touchdowns.
Gumms had been with the Arkansas program for 2 years, catching 4 passes for 26 yards after transferring in from North Texas. In his 4 years in college, Gumms has 38 career receptions for 484 yards and 5 touchdowns.
The dismissals of neither Washington nor Gumms were explained by Coach Pittman.
Michigan CB Will Johnson Update: Not Shutting It Down for 2024
Michigan CB Will Johnson didn’t play this past week in Michigan’s 24-17 win over Michigan State due to an injury from the Week 8 loss to Illinois.
On Monday, Coach Sherrone Moore shared that Johnson will play again in 2024, and that Johnson has no plan of shutting his season down.
It is unclear when Johnson will be back, however, Coach Moore knows Johnson’s heart is in it and he wants to be out there: “If he could go out there, he would go out there in a heartbeat. I know that he’ll be back out there at some point this season, whether it’s this week, next week, whatever it is. And there’s zero doubt in my mind that he’s a competitor that wants to be out there with his teammates,” Coach Moore said.
Mike Elko on Decision Between Marcel Reed, Conner Weigman
Texas A&M Coach Mike Elko made the change at QB from Conner Weigman to Marcel Reed, who led Texas A&M to a 38-23 comeback victory over LSU.
Despite this win and Reed’s performance, Coach Elko hemmed and hawed a bit over who the starting QB will be moving forward. Coach Elko shared, “yeah, I think the possibility is there for a lot of things. I think we’re going to look at this week, figure out what we think the right thing is for us, what we think gives us the best chance to win moving forward. It’s probably too early in our minds to make that decision. Even if we did, we probably wouldn’t tell you right now anyway. But no, I think we just want to see how this week plays out, see what we think gives us the best shot to go into this environment and be successful, and then go forward from there.”
Texas A&M’s is unbeaten in SEC play right now, and has a remaining schedule of @ South Carolina, vs. New Mexico State, @ Auburn, and vs. Texas. So, figuring out which QB gives the Aggies the best chance to win is going to be crucial as Texas, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, Ole Miss, and the rest of the SEC are all looking for the Aggies to slip up.
