Sanders, Colorado, SEC Predictions, Clemson

College Football Roundup – June 17, 2024

Good morning, and welcome back into College Football Roundup from CFB Home.

We noticed there was no daily newsletter that was all college football, all the time. So, here’s some of the top stories in college football – no bias, no slant.

247Sports Predicts SEC Records

Brad Crawford of 247Sports has predicted every contest in the SEC this season, in which he has twelve bowl eligible teams, a five-way tie for 2nd in the SEC, and Texas suffering their lone loss to Texas A&M in the first matchup of that rivalry since 2011.

4-Star Bralan Womack’s Recruitment

The 2026 safety from Mississippi, Bralan Womack, recently shared with 247Sports that his top 2 schools right now are Ohio State and Notre Dame.

Womack is ranked as the top safety according to 247 and ESPN, with the On3 industry composite ranking him as the third safety and the 30th overall prospect in the 2026 class.

On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine gives a different school – Ole Miss – the best chance of landing the safety, with a 53.6% chance, at the time of writing.

Klatt: Colorado “potentially competing for that spot in the Big 12 title game”

Joel Klatt believes if Colorado is able to better protect Shedeur Sanders, then Colorado could do a whole lot better than winning four games by winning “six, seven, eight, maybe nine games and potentially competing for that spot in the Big 12 title game.”

One reason for why Klatt believes this is because of the Pac-12’s great quarterbacks (i.e., Caleb Williams, Michael Penix, Bo Nix, etc.) no longer being on Colorado’s schedule. The Buffaloes have added 86 new players for the 2024 roster.

Shilo Sanders Gets a Small Win In His Bankruptcy Case

The judge in Shilo Sanders’ case partially dismissed John Darjean’s lawsuit which claimed Sanders was using the bankruptcy process and LLCs to avoid paying the $11.89 million dollar judgment against Sanders. Sander has been trying to use Chapter 7 bankruptcy for some relief on that judgment amount which stems from a 2015 assault on Darjean that Sanders was found liable for in a Texas civil court.

There were some parts which were not dismissed, with the main focus of the case being around “piercing the corporate veil” – or the question of if Sanders’ LLCs are so inextricably linked to his personal finances so as to not justify the bankruptcy of the LLCs. Darjean and his legal team have been given until June 27th to refile an amended complaint for the portions which were dismissed.

Greg McElroy: Clemson Flying “Way Under the Radar”

With all of the talk going into the 2024 season about Miami and Florida State, Greg McElroy wants people to not sleep on the Clemson Tigers.

McElroy notes that around the Tigers’ Nov. 4 win over Notre Dame last season, Clemson looked like a different roster than the one that looked shaky through September and October.

Eli Drinkwitz: “The Challenge Is Not Resting On Success”

In looking at the prior season which saw the Missouri Tigers finish 8th in the AP Poll and bring home a Cotton Bowl trophy, Coach Drinkwitz reflected on how the success has given the Tigers an opportunity to build off that success so long as the Tigers don’t rest on their laurels.

Drinkwitz also reflected on how the new age of the transfer portal and some of the losses the Tigers’ roster suffered – like the SEC’s leading rusher, Cody Schrader, among others – means having to re-lay the foundation which had helped lead to success the prior season.

McElroy: Kansas’ Jalon Daniels Should Be Getting More Attention

Greg McElroy shared that he believed Jalon Daniels has the potential to be a top quarterback in the Big 12 for 2024. McElroy noted that the past couple of seasons, the Jayhawks have been impressive prior to injuries to Daniels, finding themselves in the AP Top 25 each of the last two seasons.

“You have to take into account that [Kansas is] 8-2 in the regular season in the last two years when Jalon Daniels played the whole game.”

Sherrone Moore Shares That Pass from Donovan Edwards to Colston Loveland Was Favorite Play in 2023

Coach Sherrone Moore shared his favorite playcall from the 2023 season with Joel Klatt: Donovan Edwards’ halfback pass to Colston Loveland for a first down at the beginning of the 4th quarter against Ohio State.

4-Star DL Malcolm Simpson Commits to Nebraska

Nebraska has secured a commitment from 4-star DL Malcolm Simpson. The Galveston, TX recruit committed to the Huskers over Texas Tech, Kansas, USC, and Baylor, among others, largely because of the history at Nebraska and the opportunity he sees to be developed alongside a talent like Princewill Umanmielen.

Simpson is currently listed as the 293rd ranked player according to the On3 Industry Ranking.
