CFB Roundup – March 3, 2025
Good morning, and welcome back to CFB Roundup from CFB Home – the first daily newsletter that’s all college football, all the time with no bias, no slant, and no fluff.
Mason Alexander, Freshman CB at Pitt, Passes in Fatal Car Crash

Mason Alexander, a cornerback for Pitt the Class of 2025, has reportedly died in a fatal car crash Saturday evening.
According to a press release from the sheriff’s office, the crash occurred around 9 PM on Saturday night. One vehicle was heading north, while the other was heading south. The car heading south attempted to pass another vehicle by moving into the northbound lane and going around, but then it saw the vehicle heading north and attempted to return to its original lane heading south. An unfortunate overcorrection caused the car to veer off the road, hit a tree, and catch fire. Alexander was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
Coach Pat Narduzzi shared a heartfelt post expressing his sympathies for the accident on his social media accounts. He shared, “I received a call this morning that no parent, teacher or coach ever wants to get – the news of the sudden loss of a young and promising life. Our entire program is shocked and deeply saddened to learn of Mason Alexander’s passing. Mason had just enrolled at Pitt in January following his early graduation from Indiana’s Hamilton Southeastern High School. Even during that short time, he made a great impression on all of us. Mason was proud and excited to be a Panther, and we felt the same way about having him in our Pitt family. He will always be a Panther to us. The Alexander family and Mason’s many loved ones and friends will be in our prayers.”
Mason Alexander was 18 years old. Our thoughts and prayers are with him, his friends, his family, and the Pitt community.

Consensus 5-Star OT Immanuel Iheanacho has set a pair of spring visits: Maryland this weekend and Oregon likely the following weekend.
Iheanacho has already set a top 11 of Oregon, Georgia, Penn State, Alabama, LSU, Texas A&M, Maryland, Florida, Miami, Auburn, and Tennessee, with summer OVs locked in for Penn State and Maryland.
However, Iheanacho shared, “Maryland is my No. 1. Oregon is my No. 2. It’s kind of funny, I’m trying not to be indecisive. First, I liked Georgia a lot, then Oregon, and Maryland now is my top school. Oregon still excites me and still intrigues me. They’re the school I have the best relationship with.”
For both Maryland and Oregon, the relationships he has with the head coaches and OL coaches are big parts of the draw.
He ranks anywhere from 4th to 9th on the individual recruiting sites, but that consistency has him high on the On3 industry composite rankings, ranking 2nd nationally and 2nd at the OT position.

This visit is in conjunction with his official visit the weekend of May 30th, too. He then has OVs to Georgia (June 6), Michigan (June 13), and Tennessee (June 20).
Hiter is the top RB according to both On3 and 247, with On3 ranking him 11th nationally. The On3 industry composite, however, has him 18th nationally and 1st at the RB position.

4-Star ATH Jett Goldsberry has shared with On3 that he has spring visits planned with 4 programs for the months of March and April.
Goldsberry is going to be visiting Louisville (March 4), Purdue (March 8), Vanderbilt (March 18), and then he is planning on setting one up with Indiana for spring practice, likely in April.
Purdue was one of the first programs to toss its hat in the ring for Goldsberry, which has really set the tone. Then Louisville and Indiana are also a pair of programs that have been keeping tabs on him. But it was Vanderbilt that was a recent offeror and riser in his recruitment process, which appears to wide open at this point.
Looking at the recruiting rankings, On3 is the only service which has even gotten around to ranking him, and they see him as a 4-star, in no small part to finishing with 1807 passing yards, 1,676 rushing yards, 54 total touchdowns, 212 career tackles, 4 forced fumbles, and 3 interceptions. He also went sub-11 in the 100m dash and sub-22 in the 200m dash. In short – he’s a remarkable athlete, even if his school only has a little over 150 people per year and is “only” 3A Indiana football.
