Pac-12 Commish Expects Multiple Media Rights Partners in Next Deal
Pac-12 Commissioner Teresa Gould confirmed that the Pac-12 is expecting for multiple networks to be a part of whatever the final media rights package looks like.
Gould was on Next Up with Adam Breneman, and she shared, “I think for us, based on our objectives for our media rights partnerships – one of which is to reach a diverse audience. You hear that all the time from our coaches. We have a diverse fan base, and we need to be on platforms that reach all of our stakeholders. And I think in order to do that, we’re going to have to have multiple media rights partners. I don’t see us being in a situation where we walk away with just one partner in order to accomplish all of the things we’re looking to accomplish, including reach, marketing, and brand support. All of the things that we’re trying to achieve.”
As for the interest of the Pac-12 as a property, Gould shared, “we have a lot of interest. I think the thing that’s been really fun about it is because we’re in a rebuild situation, we have a clean slate. We don’t have predetermined packages. We have, I call it, the clean whiteboard. … I don’t want this to be a media rights partner writing us a check and televising a bunch of games. We need these partnerships to be transformational at this point, and for somebody to really jump in with us and say, we want to help elevate and reimagine the new Pac-12. I think what we talked about with the legacy Pac-12 brand has proven to be true. There’s a lot of interest in the marketplace and potential media rights partners really see the value in the legacy of the Pac-12 brand. And then, I would say our metrics have been really strong.”
In considering the metrics, Gould shared, “you look at what Oregon State and Washington State did on The CW this year. That Oregon State - Washington State game was the top-viewed college football game on The CW this year. That meant a lot, and those two FOX games that we had, the viewership was on par with the Big 12. So, I think potential media rights partners see it as a valuable product.”
Mississippi State to Promote Courtney Williams to Assistant GM
Matt Zenitz of 247Sports is reporting that Mississippi State is set to promote Courtney Williams to Assistant General Manager of the football team after he was the Director of Scouting for Mississippi State the past two seasons.
Before that, Williams was the Assistant Director of Player Development at Memphis.
With Mississippi State this past year, Williams helped recruit the #22 recruiting class and a transfer portal class which has 24 new faces for the Bulldogs’ roster.
Virginia Tech’s Brent Pry Confirms Brian Crist Staying as QBs Coach
Virginia Tech Head Coach Brent Pry shared during his Monday press conference that QBs Coach Brian Crist would be staying on the staff and would remain working with the QBs even after the hiring of Philip Montgomery as the new OC.
“We didn’t want to reset this whole thing. We’ve got a good foundation laid. … [Montgomery] is the offensive coordinator and he’ll obviously be involved heavily in our quarterbacks, but right now Brian Crist is working with the quarterbacks. There may be some reshuffling at the 100 level, but obviously Coach Montgomery’s experience with quarterbacks was an important piece to the hire.”
Coach Crist is entering his fifth season with the Hokies and was a GA back in the 90s for a season with Coach Pry.
