Dana Holgorsen Promoted to OC for Rest of Season by Nebraska
Nebraska recently added Dana Holgorsen – former Houston and West Virginia head coach – to the staff as an offensive consultant.
According to Sean Callahan on Twitter, Coach Holgorsen now has quite the promotion already, with it being announced he will be calling plays for the remainder of the 2024 season.
Marcus Satterfield was previously the offensive coordinator and had yet to call his offense’s game with enough success to score 20 points even once since September.
Holgorsen was with the TCU staff just earlier this season as a scout and advisor. To go from a scout and advisor for one program to playcaller in the middle of the season is interesting timing and quite the transition.
His overall record as a head coach is 92-69. And his task will be to lead the offense well enough to win at least one more game, as Nebraska has not been to the postseason in 8 years and needs just one more win against USC, Wisconsin, or Iowa to get to a sixth win after starting the season 5-1 before dropping all of the last 3 games.
CMU, Jim McElwain Under Investigation by NCAA for Connor Stalions Potentially on Sidelines
CBS Sports’ Dennis Dodd is reporting that Central Michigan’s Jim McElwain is being investigated by the NCAA.
“Central Michigan coach Jim McElwain is the subject of an ongoing NCAA investigation involving Connor Stalions’ appearance on the Chippewas sideline last fall, sources told CBS Sports. The NCAA is seeking to determine if McElwain had a role in allowing Stalions on the sideline of the Chippewas’ season opener against Michigan State.”
Coach McElwain has completely denied any sort of involvement or knowledge when asked about it previously, saying, “we … were totally unaware of it. I certainly don’t condone it in any way, shape, or form, and I do know that his name was on none of the [sideline] passes that were let out.”
Miami’s Mario Cristobal on His Message to His Players After First Loss
Miami lost its first game of the season to Georgia Tech, and Coach Mario Cristobal shared what his message was to his team.
“The reality of it… got to own it. Got to own every bit of it, all of us. In this profession, when you take one on the chin like that, you’ve got to be a grown man, you got to own it. There’s no finger pointing, there’s no – and by that, I mean starting of course with myself and every coach on the staff and every player, you just own it. And you don’t talk about it very much, you could just go do something about it.”
Coach Cristobal also shared, “we have a bye week with everything in front of us to play for to do something about it. And to make sure that as sick as everyone’s feeling, that I hope we all feel sick to the point where it drives us to be better. Because certainly that was not our best football, nowhere near it.”
3-Star ATH Chaz Coleman Commits to Penn State
I’m excited to announce that I will be continuing my education and athletic career as a Nitty Lion. I’d like to thank everyone who’s been instrumental in getting me to this point. I’m truly honored and beyond grateful #we are🦁

3-Star ATH Chaz Coleman committed to Penn State recently over offers from Kentucky, Michigan State, Ole Miss, and others.
Coleman took his official visit to the Nittany Lions this past weekend and evidently enjoyed his time so much that he’s since committed.
Coleman is rated as a 4-star by both On3 and ESPN, with ESPN ranking him 208th nationally and On3 ranking him 5th for his position designation. According to the On3 industry composite, however, Coleman ranks 600th nationally and 22nd at his position.
Penn State is up to 26 commitments now for the 2025 class, a class which ranks 15th nationally and 5th in the Big Ten.
Wisconsin Staffer & Former NFL Head Coach Jack Del Rio Resigning After Arrest
Wisconsin’s Jack Del Rio was arrested for drunk driving and hitting a street sign

Wisconsin staffer Jack Del Rio was arrested for driving while intoxicated after hitting a street sign and breaking a fence.
There were no injuries reported, thankfully. Del Rio was the defensive coordinator for the Washington Commanders from 2020-23 and also has past experience as the Head Coach of both the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Oakland Raiders.
With Wisconsin, his role was evaluating both sides of the ball through the lens of a defensive-minded coach and his title was “Senior Advisor to the Head Coach.”
During a press conference, Head Coach Luke Fickell shared, “it’s a tough situation, decisions that all of us have to be able to take full responsibility for. So, that’s what Jack will do and we’ll continue to move forward.”
Kentucky’s Mark Stoops Shoots Down Retirement Rumors
Kentucky’s Mark Stoops has been hearing the rumors that he’s supposedly retiring (or at least stepping down from the Kentucky position at the end of the season), and he’s not having it.
Coach Stoops was asked about it yesterday, and his response was curt and to the point: “Very briefly? Zero. Zero percent chance I do that. Next question.”
Kentucky is currently 3-6 and is on the verge of missing a bowl. Kentucky has not missed a bowl since Coach Stoops and the Wildcats went 5-7 in 2015. With a remaining schedule of vs. Murray State, @ Texas, and vs. Louisville, it’s going to be an uphill battle to get to a 5th win, nonetheless a 6th, but Coach Stoops still believes in his team.
“You know, we still have a quarter of the season left. So, you know, it’s up to us on how we decide to finish. I trust our team, I believe in our team, and you know, we’ll be excited to get back on the field today and start our prep for Murray.”

2026 3-star ATH Zion Legree committed to Ole Miss yesterday over offers from Georgia, Miami, Missouri, and others.
Legree was in Oxford this past weekend to watch Ole Miss beat Georgia, one of the biggest (if not the biggest) wins in program history.
Legree is rated as a 4-star by Rivals, who ranks him 178th nationally and 27th for his position designation, with the On3 industry composite ranking Legree 392nd nationally and 35th at the ATH position.
This is Ole Miss’ first commitment in the 2026 class, though it is still very early in the cycle.

3-star RB Nolan James Jr. has flipped his commitment from Boston College to Notre Dame after taking an official visit to Notre Dame this past weekend.
For James, he was looking for a program that would be the best of both worlds between academics and athletics. The overall messaging and how the players were being pushed to be the best they could be also really stood out to James.
James is ranked highest by Rivals, who has him as the 49th ranked RB in the 2025 class, while the On3 industry composite places James 988th nationally and 76th at the RB position.
This is Notre Dame’s 24th commitment in the 2025 class for a class which now ranks 14th overall nationally. Boston College still has 25 commitments for the 2025 class for a class which ranks 57th nationally and 14th out of 17 in the ACC.
Mississippi Valley State LB Ryan Quinney Passes Away Due to Car Crash
Mississippi Valley State LB Ryan Quinney was killed in a car crash Friday night. Quinney was only 20.
According to the County Coroner, Quinney was a passenger in a vehicle that was attempting to flee Highway Patrol when the driver lost control. It is unknown who the driver is or what the driver’s condition is, but Quinney was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver lost control of the vehicle when the vehicle went through a ditch, hit a parked car, and went airborne. The car then stuck a light pole and flipped multiple times before coming to a stop.
MVSU released the following statement: “He will be deeply missed by his friends, faculty, and all who knew him. During this difficult time, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Ryan’s family and loved ones.”

Video has surfaced of Georgia S Jake Pope on field celebrating with Ole Miss fans after Georgia lost in Oxford to Ole Miss 28-10.
Coach Kirby Smart seemed disappointed after being asked about it in his press conference, going so far as to call Pope an “idiot” and “just stupid” for doing that.
Coach Smart also shared that the person he was seen jumping up and down with are people Pope was incredibly close with prior to getting to college, but this still caused quite the uproar.
