Good morning, and welcome back to CFB Roundup from CFB Home – the first daily newsletter that’s all college football, all the time with no bias, no slant, and no fluff.

Michigan Planning to Fight Connor Stalions Allegations

Yahoo Sports’ Ross Dellenger is reporting that Michigan is planning on pushing back on many of the allegations that the NCAA is levying against the Wolverines and Stalions.

Michigan accused the NCAA of “grossly overreaching” and “wildly overcharging” with a lack of credible evidence. Michigan also said that the NCAA made “numerous factually unsupported infractions, exaggerates aggravating factors, and ignores mitigating facts.”

Michigan also asked the NCAA to apply common sense and a commitment to fairness in treating this situation as a Level II standard case, instead of a Level I infraction, which is the most severe NCAA violation. Michigan mentioned in its response that some signs and signals were shared between schools, referencing Rutgers and Nebraska as “potential alliances” in the department for Michigan State and UNLV’s signals.

From the sounds of it, Michigan is not going to go down without a fight against the NCAA.

Colorado Set Revenue and Expenses Record in Coach Sanders’ First Season

The Boulder Daily Camera’s Brian Howell is reporting that Colorado Football set both revenue and expenses records in Coach Sanders’ first season back in the first fiscal year from 7/1/23 to 6/30/24.

In that first fiscal year, Colorado generated $142M in revenue, a $25M increase from $117M. As far as expenses go, though, Colorado spent an additional $5M, going from $127M in expenses to $132M.

This means Colorado was able to record a profit, which is huge for the Buffaloes program. Both ticket sales (16.57→31.2; both in M) and merch/licensing/sponsorships/concessions (8.9→16.7; both in M) were large reasons for why.

Given the following year was an increase from 4-8 to 9-4 with a Heisman Trophy victory for Travis Hunter, it will be interesting to see how that impacted the bottom line for the Colorado athletic department and Colorado University.

Cade Klubnik: Tough to Go to Class at Clemson After a Loss

Clemson QB Cade Klubnik was a recent guest on the Field Talk Podcast with Field Yates, where Klubnik opened up a little on what it’s like to be the QB at a program like Clemson – which means he’s one of the highest profile guys on a big campus full of plenty of students.

Klubnik shared that, “I mean, I just feel like I’m another guy out there. Hopefully, that’s how other people kind of view me too. But obviously there’s stuff that comes with it. We had first day of class today and taking roll call, and I don’t have to introduce myself. You know, it’s just kind of how it is. That’s kind of what comes with it. It’s really fun to show up to class and walk around campus and everything after a big win, but it’s also pretty tough after a loss. You’re not wanting to walk into class on that Monday when probably 95% of the people in the building know who you are. That can be tough, too. You’ve got to have a great circle around you that truly cares for you and the person you are.”

Clemson’s New DC Tom Allen on Decision to Leave Penn State for Clemson: Closer to Family

Clemson’s new DC Tom Allen was asked some about his decision to leave the Penn State DC position for Clemson’s opening, and for Allen, the decision ultimately came down to his family.

By moving to Clemson, SC, Coach Allen (and his wife, importantly) are now a relatively short drive from both of his daughters and their (growing) families, who live in NC and SC.

“It was totally unexpected to be honest with you. I know not everybody’s going to understand it, and I respect that. But what I said earlier was really the bottom line: it’s about my family. And the timing of it all, when you do this as long as I have, and you get to the point where you’ve had some great opportunities and experiences, you care about having your family as close as you can. And sometimes, that’s not even possible. So, for my wife to be able to see her grandchildren on a consistent basis, you can’t replace that.”

Miami DC Corey Hetherman on Accepting the Job: Opportunity to Compete for a National Championship

New Miami DC Corey Hetherman spoke during his introductory press conference on the reason for his making the switch from Minnesota’s DC position down south to Miami’s DC vacancy.

What he shared was an interest in the opportunities that exist at a program like Miami’s on the national stage, sharing that, “looking at the opportunity to compete for a national championship. What the program is, what Coach has done here, looking at the roster, I think I’m excited about the opportunity and what we can do. There’s a lot of really good athletes, I think there’s a lot of talent. There’s a lot of speed on the defensive side of the football and I think I’m excited about trying to figure out exactly where everyone goes and where everyone will work out. But we’re going to be an attacking, aggressive-style defense. We’re going to try to dictate the tempo.”

Kalen DeBoer on if Ryan Grubb Could Be Back at Alabama

Ryan Grubb was fired as Seahawks OC after one season, and Alabama Coach Kalen DeBoer was asked if Coach Grubb could be back at Alabama and on Coach DeBoer’s staff soon.

Of Coach Grubb, Coach DeBoer kept his answer a little indirect, saying, “We go way back. Great friend of mine. I think the world of him as a football coach and obviously as a person too. I know he is working through his process just after what last season brought. Just kind of see what he does there. Here for him whenever he needs me, and that’s always going to be the case.”

Coach Grubb and Coach DeBoer started coaching together back in 2007, when Coach DeBoer hired Coach Grubb to be the run game coordinator and OL Coach for D2 Sioux Falls. From there, they were on the same staff from 2007-09, reuniting in 2014 at Eastern Michigan, as Coach DeBoer was the OC/QBs Coach and Coach Grubb was the OL Coach.

The duo coached together from 2014 to 2023, with only one year apart while Coach DeBoer was OC/QBs Coach at Indiana in 2019 before accepting the Fresno State Head Coaching job from 2020-21.

Coach Grubb shared he was going to follow Coach DeBoer to Alabama after not being named Coach DeBoer’s replacement at Washington, but then he promptly made the switch to the Seattle Seahawks when they offered him the job. But now, a little under 12 months later, Coach Grubb is back on the job market.

Ryan Day on Continuity with Ohio State Staff

Following the National Championship, Ohio State’s Ryan Day spoke on the price of success as it relates to players, coaches, and staff members becoming targets to be poached by other programs.

Coach Day spoke on the loyalty many in the Ohio State program have to Ohio State, but he did acknowledge that everyone’s first loyalty is to their family and doing what’s in their best interest:

“I just think there should be great opportunity for all these guys. We’ll work hard to make sure that they have an opportunity here at Ohio State, but if they have opportunities to go other places and do other things, then that’s part of the reward of winning a championship. … These guys were loyal. And there’s a lot of guys now on our staff that have analyst roles, GA roles, but they all stuck together. After you win something like this there’s opportunity and we’re going to fight like heck to keep these guys the best we can, but when opportunity knocks and they have opportunities they deserve to do that for their families if that is what’s best for their families. There’s no better place than Ohio State, so there will be a lot of reason for them to stay, but we’ll figure that out as we move forward.”

Shane Beamer on South Carolina’s Transfer Portal Approach

South Carolina’s Shane Beamer recently spoke on the Gamecocks’ transfer portal approach, and he spoke a lot on picking up more depth, pointing out how South Carolina lost 4 DTs, their center, and both guards, among other players.

“We were very targeted as far as what we were going to do. … we knew that we needed to increase the depth at all those positions [where South Carolina lost players]. Really, every position we were looking to add if they were the right fit. … And I like the guys we brought in. I think we brought in guys that have upside, guys that love football. We were willing to walk away from some guys that I don’t think quite fit what we were going to be about, and we figured that out during the process of trying to recruit them. … A lot of these decisions that we made in regards to the portal as far as positions that we didn’t pursue heavily were because of freshmen that we have on our team.”

2026 4-Star WR Daniel Odom Commits to Oklahoma

2026 4-Star WR Daniel Odom committed to Oklahoma yesterday over Texas and Oregon, among other offers.

Odom visited Oklahoma for their junior day recruiting event this past weekend, sharing that the energy was great from the coaches and the staff. He also spoke on the possibility to make an impact as a freshman as a large part of the reason for his commitment.

Coach Emmett Jones also was a huge part of his recruitment, as Odom highlighted out Coach Jones “is a great guy and … has been very consistent.”

Odom ranks as high as 142nd nationally and 25th at the WR position (Rivals), but according to the On3 industry composite, Odom ranks 221st nationally and 36th at the WR position.

For Oklahoma, this is the 2nd Blue Chip commitment and 4th commitment overall in the 2026 class, a class which currently ranks 14th nationally and 7th in the SEC.

2026 3-Star TE Jack Utz Commits to Kansas

2026 3-Star TE Jack Utz committed to Kansas yesterday over offers from Kansas State, Missouri, Ole Miss, Arkansas, and others.

Utz earned his offer from Kansas almost a year ago and has visited the Jayhawks program several times. During his visits, one thing he made note of was how much the players love being at Kansas and how much the staff in the athletic department take care of the athletes.

Utz ranks as high as the 26th rated TE in the 2026 class (Rivals), but according to the On3 industry composite rankings, Utz ranks 585th nationally and 30th at the TE position.

For Kansas, Utz is the 9th commitment for the 2026 class, a pretty high number for this early into the recruiting cycle. Kansas’ 2026 recruiting class currently ranks 23rd nationally and 1st in the Big 12.
