Good morning, and welcome back to CFB Roundup from CFB Home – the first daily newsletter that’s all college football, all the time with no bias, no slant, and no fluff.
Nebraska’s Matt Rhule Calls for Only One Transfer Portal Window
Nebraska’s Matt Rhule was on The Pat McAfee Show yesterday, and he shared his support of going from two transfer portal windows to only one transfer portal window.
As it stands right now, there is one transfer portal window from December 9th to December 24th and another transfer portal window from April 16th to April 25th.
Back in October, the NCAA Division I Council reformed the transfer window from 45 days to 30 days, but Coach Rhule wants to cut it down further.
“Basketball has one portal. So why would basketball have one and we have two? How many people leave in April and have a lot of success two months later? Like, I literally could, if I wanted to, I could say, ‘who am I playing Week 1?’ and see who goes in the portal for them, and take them and then know what they’re going to do against us. But I’m with you, whatever is best for the student athlete, but I think we should pick one. I don’t want to negotiate a contract with a guy in December and then renegotiate again in April. Like, you sign up with us. You should sign up for the year. Coaches sign up for the year. And so, let’s do once a year. I think one portal window would be way better.”
Upon Further Review of Police Reports, Police “Justified” In Pepper Spray Use During Ohio State – Michigan Post-Game Brawl
The Athletic used a sequence of Freedom of Information Act requests to unveil the reports that were filed and reviewed in the aftermath of the Ohio State – Michigan post-game brawl back in November.
The documents turned over revealed that three department officials agreed that the use of pepper spray was “reasonable” in that instance, including Ohio State’s Chief of Police. The documents also revealed that most actions by the sheriff’s office that day were deemed appropriate by the Internal Affairs Bureau, including the officer threatening a player with the use of a taser after placing the taser on the player’s lower back.
There is no evidence that any investigations have found any fault with Ohio State Police Department actions on that afternoon.
LSU DL Coach Bo Davis Leaving for Pros
The #Saints are expected to hire Bo Davis to be their defensive line coach, according to a league source, adding another coach from the college ranks.
Davis most recently worked as the DL coach at LSU and is considered one of the NCAA's better DL coaches.

Per Luke Johnson of the New Orleans Times-Picayune, well-respected DL Coach Bo Davis is leaving LSU for the pros.
Coach Davis played at LSU for 3 seasons in the early 90s as a nose tackle and was an All-SEC player in his time there.
He also spent time in the 90s at LSU as a GA and strength and conditioning coach. He was also an assistant strength and conditioning coach from 2002-05 with the Tigers.
Coach Davis’ resume also includes a pair of stops at each of Texas (2011-13; 2021-23) and Alabama (2007-10; 2014-15) and four seasons with two teams in the pros.
Matt Rhule on What Dana Holgorsen Brings to the Table Offensively
Nebraska Coach Matt Rhule was on The Pat McAfee Show yesterday, speaking on what Dana Holgorsen brings to the table offensively, and Coach Rhule spoke extremely highly of his offensive play caller.
Coach Holgorsen has been an OC at Oklahoma State, Houston, and Texas Tech, with an explosive, pass-heavy offensive mindset from the coaching tree that he comes from, which has been great to pair with QB Dylan Raiola, as Coach Rhule shared the following:
“We beat Wisconsin Week 11, we hadn’t beaten them in 12 years to go to the bowl season. Which was awesome. The next week, we lost to Iowa. It was like a gut punch the way we lost. But the next day, Dylan was like, ‘Coach, I’m all in,’ and Dana was like, ‘I’m all in.’ They were both kind of like, ‘if he’s in, I’m in.’ That felt great because I think they have a great relationship.”
As for how Coach Holgorsen is different, Coach Rhule spoke on the mindset differences and Coach Holgorsen is willing to be more aggressive, sharing:
“Dana is what I’m not. Dana is aggressive offensively. He wants to – there’s times he calls things, and – ‘My Lord, we’re doing that, Dana?’ He’s like, ‘it works.’ But I love it, I was so happy to get him, you’re right. When you’re a head coach, I can’t pick up a phone and call Coach Ferentz and be like, ‘Hey Coach. What do you think I should be doing here?’ So to have someone else who’s been there, who knows what that feels like, is a great resource.”
Georgia AD Josh Brooks “Hates” Hard Non-Conference Games Going Away
Georgia Athletic Director Josh Brooks was on The Paul Finebaum Show yesterday and, among other topics, he spoke on the balance of scheduling and trying to do what was best for his program to have a chance to make the College Football Playoff.
Brooks shared, “everything else that goes into it of getting our team prepped and ready for the postseason, getting our team prepped and ready for the first game of the year and making sure we put a good product on the field for our fans. Like I said before, our fans love those big matchups, they love those kickoff games that we’ve had with Oregon and Clemson through the years. I think it’s been good for the game. You hate to see that have to go away because there’s not as much value placed on strength of schedule.”
Sherrone Moore With Update on Michigan Safety Rod Moore’s Health
Michigan safety Rod Moore missed the entire 2024 season with a torn ACL, but he is anticipated to be back before the 2025 season begins, as Coach Sherrone Moore had an update yesterday on Rod Moore’s health.
“We’re pretty healthy on that front right now. Just some minor things that maybe happened during the season. The guys are getting fixed. Obviously, Rod Moore’s working through his knee and looks to be back when the summer hits. So, excited about him getting ready and rolling.”
Former Texas DB Jahdae Barron With Amusing Story of QB Arch Manning’s Humility
Former Texas CB and teammate Jahdae Barron spoke about QB Arch Manning at the NFL Combine yesterday, calling Manning, “the most humblest kid I’ve ever been around.”
Barron also shared the following: “I never even told this story. I think second week he was there, you know, as a freshman, yeah, as a freshman he’s like two lockers down from me. He asked to take my loot to the laundry thing. I told him, like, ‘Arch, you’re good, you don’t have to do it.’ But he just wanted to do it. He wanted to show me that he wasn’t better than anybody, that he was still a part of this team and he was a freshman. I told him he didn’t have to do it and I told him, ‘appreciate that.’ But sky’s the limit for that kid.”

Duke OT James Pogorelc has shared to On3’s Pete Nakos that he has entered the transfer portal.
Pogorelc spent 4 seasons with Stanford, only appearing in 12 games and only playing a total of 114 snaps. However, Pogorelc did appear in all 12 of Duke’s regular season games in 2024.
Pogorelc was a 4-star high school prospect back in the 2020 cycle before hardly ever seeing the field at Stanford.
He should have one season of eligibility remaining.
Matt Rhule With a Little Bit of an Old School Punishment For A Player Using TikTok In Facility
Nebraska Coach Matt Rhule was on The Pat McAfee Show yesterday, and he shared an amusing punishment he put his players through, with the help of the Strength and Conditioning staff:
“I walked into the training room the other day and Harper Murray, our All-American volleyball player was sitting there with my 9-year-old. She said, ‘Coach Rhule, we’re going to do a TikTok’ – now I’m anti-TikTok, I won’t let the kids have it – and my 9-year-old is like, ‘what are you going to say to Harper?’ And I’m like, ‘oh, have fun.’ So I’ve had to download TikTok and I found my daughter all over it, she finds people in the facility, I thought I saw 35 of my football players doing TikToks. And one of them did it in the facility, which is a hard no. So, our strength coach did a TikTok workout this morning with the freshmen, and they were pushing plates with their bios and all their cool stuff they love to post on there. But they were doing wall sits at the end, and every freshman had to get out and do a 10-second TikTok dance while the rest of the guys did the wall sit. Welcome to old school.”
