Arizona State Knocks Off #16 Utah At Home, 27-19

Upstart Arizona State finds itself 5-1 after knocking off #16 Utah at home by a final score of 27-19. It was a back and forth game where the 8-point final margin was the largest lead any team had at any point of the night.

Arizona State lost QB Sam Leavitt for most of the 2nd quarter, but RB Cam Skattebo did his best to propel the Sun Devils past the Utes, finishing with a game-high 158 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns on 22 carries. He was also Arizona’s State 2nd leading receiver with 41 receiving yards on 4 catches.

Leavitt finished 11-for-18 with 154 yards, a passing touchdown, and an interception with 9 of those receptions combined going to WR Jordyn Tyson and Skattebo. Tyson finished with 5 catches for 84 yards and a touchdown.

Utah finished with 19 points despite only punting once, in large part due to 3 interceptions from QB Cam Rising. Rising finished 16-for-37 with 209 yards and the 3 picks, 2 of which went to Caleb McCullough and the other to Keith Abney II for the Sun Devils.

RB Micah Bernard finished with 129 rushing yards and a touchdown on 21 carries. He was also the team’s second leading receiver, finishing with 61 receiving yards on 5 catches.

UNLV Races Out to Early Lead, Holds Off Late Push From Utah State to Win 50-34

UNLV got out to an early 14-0 lead and outscored Utah State 27-0 in the 2nd quarter to take a 41-7 lead into halftime. To Utah State’s credit, the Aggies did fight back to make the score look respectable, getting the deficit to just 16 by the end and actually finishing with more total yards than UNLV.

Utah State’s 4 turnovers – including 3 interceptions from QB Spencer Petras – proved to be a hurdle the Aggies were not able to clear.

LB Jackson Woodard picked off Petras twice, while UNLV’s Jett Elad was responsible for the 3rd interception. Petras finished 41-for-59 with 461 passing yards, 3 touchdowns, and the 3 aforementioned interceptions.

UNLV did dominate the run game, however, rushing for 315 yards on 45 carries as a team. Jai’Den Thomas finished with a game-high 139 rushing yards and a touchdown on 17 carries. Kylin James also added 105 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns on 13 carries. QB Hajj-Malik Williams ran for 65 yards on 14 carries (with a long of 62) while also throwing for 233 yards and 3 touchdowns on 13-for-20 passing.

WR Ricky White III had yet another solid game since UNLV’s QB change, as White finished with 138 yards and 2 touchdowns on 7 catches.

2 Utah State pass catchers finished with big days, as Jalen Royals and Jack Hestera both finished with 10 catches and a touchdown, with Royals going for 155 yards and Hestera going for 152 yards.

Maryland Turns the Ball Over 4 Times to Fall to 0-3 in Big Ten Play, Northwestern Wins 37-10

Northwestern picks up its first win in Big Ten play as Maryland falls to 0-3 in conference play after turning the ball over 4 times to Northwestern.

Northwestern finished with a 27 point win despite being outgained 355-283 and only rushing for 2.4 yards per attempt on 34 rushes. Maryland also outperformed the Wildcats on 3rd down, finishing 6-for-15 to Northwestern’s 3-for-12.

Maryland was even only down 17-10 just after the 4th quarter started, but Northwestern’s 20 unanswered points made this finish tremendously lopsided in terms of final score.

Northwestern QB Jack Lausch finished 10-for-18 with 203 passing yards. He also finished with a rushing touchdown and 24 rushing yards on 8 attempts. Northwestern’s leading rusher was Caleb Komolafe, who only managed 29 rushing yards on 7 carries. RB Cam Porter also added 23 rushing yards and a touchdown on 9 carries.

Maryland QB Billy Edwards Jr. finished 28-for-51 with 296 passing yards and an interception. He also added a rushing touchdown and 5 yards on 14 rush attempts, while RB Roman Hemby finished with 42 rushing yards on 14 carries.

Northwestern’s leading receiver was Bryce Kirtz with 123 receiving yards and 3 catches, while Maryland’s leading receivers were Kaden Prather (8 rec, 81 yds) and Tai Felton (9 rec, 77 yds).

Dan Lanning’s Keys to Victory for #3 Oregon Against #2 Ohio State

According to Oregon coach Dan Lanning, he believes the biggest key for the #3-ranked Ducks to come out on top over the #2-ranked Buckeyes is going to be in the trenches.

Lanning said, “I think it’s going to be about the most physical team, right? Who’s the most physical team? In the trenches it’s going to matter who can establish the run game.”

With that in mind, Lanning also shared a few other common areas that can make the difference in a game between two seemingly evenly matched teams: “you know, takeaways always matter in games like this. Critical situations – fourth down, red area, those are going to be really big in this game.”
