In Memory: North Carolina WR Tylee Craft Passes Away from Rare Lung Cancer at 23

In the process of traveling last weekend, this one got lost in the shuffle and should have been included before today’s edition. My apologies for that.

Craft was diagnosed in March of 2022 and was honored by UNC during its annual Cancer Awareness Game this past weekend. UNC WR JJ Jones wore Craft’s #13 jersey and last name against Georgia Tech in his honor.

Coach Brown said of Craft, “this young man fought so hard for his two and a half years. The doctors told us he outlived what he should’ve. And he did it with the spirit, he did it with a smile on his face, he didn’t miss a meeting, he didn’t miss practice, he coached these other incredible young people.”

UNC’s football program also released a statement, saying, “Tylee meant so much to so many and affected us in ways we’ll always be thankful for. He was 1-of-1 and, while he won’t be with us in body, he’ll be watching over us with his endearing smile and endless positivity.”

#2 Oregon Smacks Purdue on Road 35-0

#2 Oregon put a surgical beatdown on what has been a hapless Purdue team this season by winning 35-0 in a game which featured only 2 punts for Oregon.

Oregon scored on each of its first 3 drives, and after Purdue tried to cut Oregon’s lead from 21-0 to 21-3 with a 36-yard field goal on 4th and 4 but missed, this one was more or less over.

Ducks QB Dillon Gabriel finished a precise 21-for-25 with 290 yards, 2 touchdowns, and an interception. RBs Jordan James and Noah Whittington combined for 92 yards on 19 carries, with James scoring twice on the ground and Whittington bringing in a receiving touchdown.

WRs Evan Stewart (4 rec, 96 yds) and Tez Johnson (7 rec, 66 yds, 1 TD) both contributed the most in the passing game.

Defensively, Oregon finished with 10 tackles for loss, with Matayo Uiagalelei and Devon Jackson both notching 2.

For Purdue, QB Ryan Browne tried his best, finishing 9-for-19 with 93 yards and an interception. Browne also added 48 yards on the ground on 14 carries (including the 4 times he was sacked). Running the ball, Reggie Love III was steady, finishing with 93 yards on 11 carries (8.5 avg) despite a long of only 16.

Purdue DB Kyndrich Breedlove did notch an interception against Dillon Gabriel, only Gabriel’s 4th interception of the season.

#13 BYU Scores Go-Ahead Touchdown with 10 Seconds To Beat Oklahoma State 38-35

In what was the game of the night, BYU scored on a last-second touchdown (pictured above) to improve to 7-0 and send Oklahoma State back to Stillwater 0-4 in Big 12 play.

BYU QB Jake Retzlaff finished 13-for-26 with 218 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions. Retzlaff also added 81 rushing yards and a touchdown on 9 rush attempts. RB LJ Martin had a strong day, leading all rushers in this one with 120 yards and 2 touchdowns on 20 carries.

WR Darius Lassiter led all receivers in this game by a wide margin with 6 catches, 129 receiving yards, and the game-winning touchdown.

After getting the starting job for Oklahoma State, QB Garret Rangel left with an injury right before halftime. Despite the depth chart stating that Zane Flores was the backup following Alan Bowman’s benching, Bowman played in Rangel’s absence.

Rangel finished 6-for-9 with 51 yards, a touchdown, and an interception while also adding 77 rushing yards on 5 attempts. Bowman finished 11-for-19 for 85 yards, a touchdown, and an interception while also adding 19 rushing yards on 3 attempts. Finally, WR Brennan Presley also threw a touchdown in his lone pass attempt, a 16-yard touchdown to the QB, Bowman.

Player of the game for Oklahoma State, though, goes to Ollie Gordon II. After a relatively quiet first half of the season, Gordon showed a glimpse of his former self by scoring three times and finishing with a stat line of 107 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns on 16 carries, plus 20 receiving yards and a touchdown on 3 catches.

Duke Beats Florida State 23-16 Despite 3.05 Yards Per Play; Seminoles Now 1-6

Simply put, Duke’s offense was not great last night, as the Blue Devils finished with just 180 yards on 59 plays.

But, in a game where Duke punted 9 times, Florida State’s 4 turnovers proved to be most costly.

Florida State QB Brock Glenn was responsible for 3 of those turnovers, in a sequence where he went pick-six, fumble lost, and interception in 3 consecutive snaps played.

After that, true freshman and backup Luke Kromenhoek came in for a handful of drive, where he finished his night 3-for-7 for 19 yards before Glenn was subbed back in. Between Kromenhoek and Glenn, both QBs were sacked 6 times by the Blue Devils, including 2 sacks for Alex Howard and 1.5 for Wesley Williams. Glenn finished 9-for-19 with 110 yards and 2 interceptions while also adding 47 rushing yards on 9 carries.

Florida State’s lone touchdown was a 3rd quarter kick return touchdown by Samuel Singleton Jr.

Duke, on the other hand, struggled to move the ball offensively, but it allowed zero sacks and did not turn the ball over. QB Maalik Murphy finished 12-for-24 with 70 yards, good for only 2.92 yards per attempt. RB Star Thomas finished with 88 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries, however, half of those yards came on one carry.

So with the exception of Thomas’ 44 yard touchdown run and a 20 yard rush from RB Peyton Jones (10 att, 29 yds), the Blue Devils averaged 2.92 yards per pass and 1.66 yards per rush. Even including those 2 rushes, the Blue Devils only averaged 3.1 yards per carry last night. But, it was enough on account of the fact that Florida State was unable to score any offensive touchdowns, and the only touchdown scored while Florida State’s offense was on the field was a pick-six to Duke CB Chandler Rivers.

Fresno State Beats Nevada in Back and Forth Affair 24-21 With Strong Defense Late

Fresno State won a tightly contested game against Nevada on the road 24-21 in large part to RB Elijah Gilliam, who finished as Fresno’s leading rusher and receiver.

Gilliam finished with 66 rushing yards and 2 rushing touchdowns while also finishing with 2 catches for 74 yards. The go-ahead touchdown for Fresno State was scored, though, by Joshua Wood, who finished with just 6 rushing yards and a touchdown, but his 7-yard rush to give the Bulldogs the lead was what mattered most.

QB Mikey Keene finished 13-for-20 with 190 yards and an interception in a perfectly fine showing that is perhaps best represented by a pedestrian QBR of 34.6.

LB Malachi Langley stuffed the statsheet for Fresno State, with an impressive 13 tackles (7 solo) and 2 sacks.

For Nevada, QBs Brendon Lewis and Chubba Purdy finished a combined 16-for-24 for 211 yards and a touchdown. The one touchdown was a 46-yard pass to Nate Burleson II, his only catch on the day. Of the 211 receiving yards, a majority of them went to the game’s leading receiver, Jaden Smith, who finished with 134 yards and 9 catches for the Wolfpack.

Running the ball, Nevada’s Savion Red finished with 56 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries, while QB Brendon Lewis contributed 38 rushing yards and a touchdown to the cause.

Despite falling to 3-5 and 0-2 in Mountain West play, this is Nevada’s 4th loss of 5 points or fewer, which is mightily impressive given the fairly low expectations people had for the Wolfpack coming into the season.

#1 DL and Consensus 5-Star Elijah Griffin Commits to Georgia

Consensus 5-star and top-rated DL Elijah Griffin committed to Georgia yesterday over Miami, USC, and other offers.

For Griffin, he’s been high on Georgia since it took a chance on him when he was just 13 and was unofficially offered by the Bulldogs: “Being able to stay home, go to Georgia and play for a program that took a chance on me first means a lot. Georgia has always had a special spot in my heart.”

Griffin said that he’s known DL Coach Tray Scott for over 5 years and the relationship he has with him is different from any other coach out there. In his young life, Griffin has visited Georgia at least a dozen times, but possibly closer to 20. So the decision makes sense, though, Miami was reportedly a contender for Griffin’s commitment, as was USC after landing an official visit.

On3, 247, and ESPN all rank Griffin as the #1 DL, with Rivals ranking him 2nd for his position. 247 ranks Griffin 4th nationally, with On3 and ESPN ranking him 5th, and Rivals ranking him 9th.

The On3 industry composite ranks Griffin 5th nationally and 1st of all DL in the 2025 class.

This is Georgia’s 3rd 5-star commitment, 20th Blue Chip commitment, and 23rd commitment overall for a 2025 class which ranks 3rd nationally and 2nd in the SEC behind only Alabama’s top-rated class.

#1 Texas v. #5 Georgia Injury Report

#1 Texas takes on #5 Georgia in arguably the most anticipated matchup of the weekend, and Friday’s injury report has been shared:

For Texas, WR Isaiah Bond has been upgraded to probable, with the same players who have been listed as Out are all still Out (DB Derek Williams Jr., OL Trevor Goosby, RBs CJ Baxter, Christian Clark, and Velton Gardner).

For Georgia, there are no changes from earlier in the week: OL Jared Wilson and DL Jordan Hall are both probable, OL Tate Ratledge is still questionable, DL Joseph Jonah-Ajonye, LB Smael Mondon Jr., and RBs Roderick Robinson II and Branson Robinson are all out.

#7 Alabama v. #11 Tennessee Injury Report

It is the third Saturday in October, and there have been a few key players on the injury report this week for Alabama – specifically for Kendrick Law, Kobe Prentice, and Domani Jackson.

However, good news for Alabama fans as all of those players are off of the injury report and therefore expected to play. DB Keon Sabb was also upgraded to probable, but EDGE Yhonzae Pierre is still listed as questionable. RB Daniel Hill and LB Cayden Jones are still listed as out.

For Tennessee, DB Jourdan Thomas, LB Keenan Pili, and LB Edwin Spillman are all still out (as expected).

4-Star OT Aaron Dunn Commits to USC

4-Star OT Aaron Dunn committed to USC yesterday after decommitting from Utah earlier this week. Dunn originally committed to Utah back in August but took an official visit to USC in late May.

Dunn shared that he saw everything from USC that would help him reach his goals, and that he wanted to be a part of the program given the direction he thinks it is headed.

Dunn is ranked 223rd nationally and 18th for his position according to the On3 industry composite, but he is ranked as high as 70th nationally and 9th at his position according to ESPN’s recruiting rankings.

This is USC’s 12th Blue Chip commitment and 23rd commitment overall for the 2025 class for a class which ranks 10th nationally and 3rd in the Big Ten, behind only Ohio State and Oregon.

2026 4-Star DL Trashawn Ruffin Commits to Texas A&M

2026 4-star DL Trashawn Ruffin committed to Texas A&M yesterday over offers from Florida State, Texas, USC, and others.

Ultimately it was the visit he took to College Station back when Texas A&M beat McNeese State that really separated the Aggies for Ruffin: “man just the hospitality, everything, they’re just perfect. I felt they were the perfect college for me. I was laying in my bed and something sparked my mind just go ahead and commit to this college,” said Ruffin to On3.

Ruffin ranks 259th nationally and 27th at his position for the 2026 class according to the On3 industry composite.

This is Texas A&M’s 2nd 4-star commitment for the 2026 class this week for a class which now has 4 total commitments early in that class’ cycle.

Other Commitments/Decommitments

3-Star (85) WR Brock Coffman commits to Ohio
