Penn State Star EDGE Abdul Carter “A Game-Time Decision”
During yesterday’s press conference with both coaches present, Penn State’s James Franklin shared that Abdul Carter is a game-time decision.
“We anticipate Abdul playing. He’s doing everything he possibly can to play. His approach has been awesome. He lives in the training, but it’ll be a game-time decision. And we’ll see. … But we are hopeful and expecting Abdul to play and we’ll see how that plays out.”
Carter has been a massive piece of the Penn State defense, logging 63 tackles, 22 TFLs, and 11 sacks this season.
Notre Dame RB Jeremiyah Love: Good to Go
During yesterday’s press conference with both coaches, Notre Dame’s Marcus Freeman shared that Jeremiyah Love will presumably play tonight in the Orange Bowl.
“He’s had a good week of practice. We have to be smart about how much we’re asking him to do in practice. No one is 100-percent right now. He’ll be good to go.”
Love got hurt in the 3rd quarter of the Sugar Bowl and later had a brace on his right knee but did not return to action.
Texas’ Steve Sarkisian: Going to Have Hard Time Guarding Ohio State’s WRs
Texas gave a fairly candid assessment of the Ohio State offense, where he gave the Buckeyes plenty of credit.
“[Jeremiah Smith and Emeka Egbuka are] both big, physical players. They have length. They have speed. They have play-making ability on the ball. They have really big catch radiuses. They’ve got the scheme to go with it, with Coach Kelly and Coach Day. They’ve got a quarterback who delivers them the ball. So, you add all that up, these guys are impactful players that are real issues. We’re going to have a hard time guarding them.”
In the Rose Bowl, Smith and Egbuka combined for 12 catches, 259 yards, and 3 touchdowns. The two of them have combined for 140 receptions, 2,120 yards, and 24 touchdowns on the season.
Quinn Ewers on Portal Speculation: Not Worried About That Stuff
Much has been made lately about the future of Texas QB Quinn Ewers, as he can declare for the NFL Draft, he can enter the transfer portal for a final season elsewhere, or he can play his final season with the Longhorns.
On3’s Pete Nakos recently reported that tampering was at an all-time high for Ewers’ services in the transfer portal.
During the Cotton Bowl Media Day, though, Ewers shared that he’s “just not worried about all that stuff. People can say all they want to say. I’m just focused on Friday at this point in time.”
Ewers also shared that he believes it would be selfish of him to get ahead of himself and start thinking about that: “I think I’d be doing a disservice to my teammates about me even thinking about what’s next. What’s right in front of us isn’t over it.”
Iowa State’s Matt Campbell Interview for Bears HC Opening
According to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune, multiple sources have indicated that Iowa State HC Matt Campbell will interview for the opening.
Coach Campbell has been the Head Coach of Iowa State since 2016 and has certainly had his name linked to high-profile jobs in both college and the pros before.
While with Iowa State, Coach Campbell has put up a 64-51 record with two Big 12 Conference Championship Game appearances. Including his time at Toledo, he is 99-66 all-time as a Head Coach.
Bears GM Ryan Poles shared the competition for vacancy will, “be a diverse group. This will be different backgrounds from offense, defense, special teams, college, pro. We’re turning every stone to make sure we’re doing this the right way. There’s going to be some names that you don’t expect that are going to surprise you because we’re digging deeper than we ever have before.”
Bill Belichick Reportedly Committed to UNC Despite NFL Interest
NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero reported yesterday morning that multiple NFL teams have inquired about Belichick and if he would have any interest in getting back into coaching an NFL team, including from the Raiders, where his former QB, Tom Brady, is minority owner.
The Athletic’s Dianna Russini is reporting, however, that Belichick is locked in with North Carolina and is not interested in returning to the NFL for next season. Russini reports that Belichick’s, ‘sole focus is on coaching and recruiting for North Carolina, as he continues building the Tar Heels’ future,’ adding that he is in New Jersey on a recruiting trip today.
Coach Belichick’s contract has a $10M buyout until June 1st when it drops to just $1M, making it quite expensive to hire him away from the Tar Heels during this coaching cycle.
Deion Sanders On NFL Coaching: Only Way I Would Consider is to Coach My Sons
Colorado Coach Deion Sanders appeared on Good Morning America on Wednesday morning and was asked if he’d ever make the jump to the NFL, and he shared that “the only way I would consider, is to coach my sons. Not son. Sons.”
Coach Sanders continued, “I love Colorado. Now, I love my Buffaloes. I love everything that we’re building, I love everything that we’re doing, and I love Boulder, Colorado. I do.”
Report: New Proposal for NCAA Governance
A proposal from power conferences stands to remake NCAA governance & shift control of championships, per documents obtained by @YahooSports.
SEC, Big Ten, Big 12 & ACC are seeking an expansion of A4 powers to include management of NCAA postseason events.
bit.ly/4abDr4a— Ross Dellenger (@RossDellenger)
11:29 PM • Jan 8, 2025
Yahoo Sports’ Ross Dellenger recently shared information on an obtained document that the power conferences are seeking more control in a proposal to rework NCAA governance.
This proposal would give more authority to the power conferences over key responsibilities in areas such as rule-making and postseason events. It would allow the P4 conferences to manage postseason championships, while that is currently the NCAA’s responsibility. It would also allow the conferences to have more authority on financial issues like revenue distribution and selection committees.
There would also be a subdivision under the NCAA’s purview separate from the P4, but one key point, according to Dellenger, is that this is not a true breakaway from the NCAA.
Alabama OT Transfer Elijah Pritchett Commits to Nebraska
Alabama OT transfer Elijah Pritchett committed to Nebraska yesterday out of the transfer portal.
Pritchett entered the transfer portal after Alabama’s season, a season in which he started 10 games at right tackle and made 12 total appearances.
In 2023, Pritchett was used as a reserve OT and a special teams player. In the 2022, Pritchett redshirted after being one of the top recruits in the 2022 class, where he ranked 34th nationally and 4th at the OT position.
In the transfer portal, Pritchett was ranked 181st nationally and 14th at the OT position in the transfer portal.
Alabama WR Germie Bernard Returning for 2025 Season
One of Alabama’s top WRs from the 2024 season, Germie Bernard, will return for 2025 according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
Thamel shared on Twitter, “Alabama WR Germie Bernard, who led the team in catches in 2024, will return to the Crimson Tide in 2025, he told ESPN. Bernard is a Washington transfer who came over with Kalen DeBoer. He finished the year with 50 catches, 794 yards, and 2 touchdowns. Bernard told ESPN he considered the NFL Draft for a week, but ultimately decided to return. Both the allure of graduating and a belief in what’s being built at Bama led to his decision.”
