Steve Sarkisian on if Arch Manning Will Play vs. Colorado State

Texas coach Steve Sarkisian was recently asked if the sport’s most famous backup QB, Arch Manning, would play against Colorado State in Week 1.

In response to being asked if fans should expect to see Manning, Sarkisian left it briefly at, “we’ll find out.”

Sarkisian shared that he’s looking to play a lot of guys for the Longhorns this season, especially in the first half. He also said that their two-deep is deep enough that they basically have ones who are twos and twos are ones, presumably to keep people fresh and to get more rotations of players involved.

The exact depth chart for Texas is expected to be released in the next day or so, but whether or not Manning will see the field is currently an unknown and will likely be situationally dependent.

Sherrone Moore: Michigan Close to Naming Starting QB

Michigan coach Sherrone Moore recently shared that Michigan is close to naming a starting QB.

From the sounds of it, the decision is really down to Alex Orji and Davis Warren, as those are the two quarterbacks who are sharing the most reps in practice according to Sherrone Moore.

Moore also shared that he plans on telling the quarterbacks after another couple practices who he’s decided should be the starter. However, he has kept open the possibility of running some sort of quarterback rotation, as Moore says that he’s seen it work before but has also seen it not work.

Michigan opens the season at home against Fresno State on August 31st.

Consensus 4-Star DL Christian Garrett Commits to Georgia Tech

Consensus 4-star DL Christian Garrett committed to Georgia Tech yesterday over offers from Clemson, Tennessee, USC, Georgia, and others. Garrett was committed to Georgia for a couple months previously.

Garrett said that when he was committed to Georgia, it just didn’t sit right with him, but being at Georgia Tech did sit right with him. So, now he’s committed to the Yellow Jackets.

Garrett ranks as high as 62nd nationally according to On3, but the On3 industry composite rankings place him 134th nationally and 12th at his position.

This is Georgia Tech’s 5th Blue Chip commitment and 23rd commitment overall for a 2025 class which ranks 20th nationally and 4th in the ACC behind only Miami, Florida State, and Clemson.

Kalen DeBoer Week 1 Injury Update on 3 Key Players

Kalen DeBoer recently took some time to share injury updates on 3 key players: RB Jam Miller, OG Jaeden Roberts, and LB Jeremiah Alexander.

With Week 1 against Western Kentucky quickly approaching, DeBoer shared that Miller and Roberts should be good to go against the Hilltoppers.

Alexander, on the other hand, should not be expected to play this weekend. It sounded like DeBoer left the door open for Alexander to play, but did not sound too optimistic. He was also recently seen in a sling, though his exact injury or injury status was not shared.

Texas A&M Depth Chart vs. Notre Dame

Texas A&M has released its depth chart for its Week 1 contest against Notre Dame.

There are not too many surprises for the Aggies, as Conner Weigman is listed as QB1. The only freshmen listed as starters for their position are punter Tyler White and Terry Bussey at punt returner.

On defense, Nic Scourton (DE), Shemar Turner (DT), DJ Hicks (DT), Shemar Stewart (DE), and Taurean York (MLB) all make up a solid Front 7 for the Aggies which brings a lot of pedigree and quality to the defense.

After some injuries at the running back position, junior Le'Veon Moss is listed as RB1, with junior Amari Daniels and graduate senior EJ Smith listed as co-RB2.

Notre Dame Depth Chart vs. Texas A&M

Notre Dame has released its depth chart ahead of their Week 1 contest against Texas A&M, the College Game Day game.

Unsurprisingly, Duke transfer QB Riley Leonard is listed as QB1, as was expected. There are some other key positions of note.

For example, both Jordan Faison or FIU grad transfer Kris Mitchell are WR1/2 for the field side. Freshman Anthonie Knapp was officially listed as the starting LT.

At cornerback, sophomore Christian Gray is starting opposite Benjamin Morrison, one of the top cornerbacks in the country.

Auburn QB Payton Thorne Named Starter

Incumbent QB Payton Thorne has been named the starter for Auburn for the 2024 season.

Thorne transferred in to Auburn before the 2023 season, where he threw for 1,755 passing yards and 16 touchdowns in 12 starts.

Hugh Freeze recently shared that Thorne seems to now better understand both Freeze’s and Derrick Nix’s mind on what the offense is supposed to look like and how it is supposed to operate.

Auburn opens the season against Alabama A&M at 7:30 PM on August 31st.

Jeff Brohm Confirms Ahmari Huggins-Bruce Not on Roster For Now

After originally transferring to South Carolina and then leaving, WR Ahmari Huggins-Bruce is not back with Louisville, at least not yet.

“Well, right now, I probably can just talk about people that are on our roster. So we’ll just have to leave it at that for this current moment,” Brohm said in response to a question about Huggins-Bruce.

Further, Brohm described Huggins-Bruce as not on the team “as of right now.”

In his first three seasons with Louisville, Huggins-Bruce totaled 80 catches for 1,121 receiving yards, and 11 total touchdowns.

Washington QB Will Rogers Named Starter

Mississippi State transfer Will Rogers has been named the starting QB by Washington. Rogers was battling Demond Williams Jr., a 4-star true freshman.

In two seasons with Mike Leach’s offense in 2021 and 2022, Rogers threw for almost 9,000 yards and 71 passing touchdowns. In four years at Mississippi State, he threw for over 12,000 yards and 94 passing touchdowns.

One area where Rogers will need to adapt is that Coach Jedd Fisch has already shared the offense will not be the air raid style of offense which Rogers thrived during his best years with Mississippi State.

Dabo Swinney Eliminating Live Calls from Weekly Radio Show

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney will no longer be taking live calls from listeners during his weekly radio show.

The new format is called “Tiger Sports Hour with Dabo Swinney” and fans may reach out to Swinney to have questions answered via text and email.

This comes on the heels of Swinney’s interaction with Tyler from Spartanburg after Clemson got off to a 4-4 start.
